About Bo’s Coffee

A network of coffee shops in the Philippines is called Bo’s Coffee. In Cebu City, Philippines, Steve Benitez created it in 1996. The business runs 91 locations in the Philippines, with roughly 30 of them in Metro Cebu, where its headquarters are. When Steve Benitez was a student at the Ateneo de Manila University, he had the notion to open a coffee business. He constantly needed coffee to remain awake while studying. His parents had plans to close the family-run and -owned Ric’s Barbeque on Ramos Street in Cebu City in 1992. The eldest of the five Benitez siblings, Steve, quit Ateneo de Manila Law School to take over the family company.

Steve Benitez was obstinate in his decision to launch Bo’s Coffee in a modest area in Ayala Center Cebu in June 1996 despite attending several seminars and training sessions and receiving warnings that the business was not likely to succeed. Two months before the store’s opening, his two business partners departed, leaving him all by himself. Benitez first had to offer samples for free since his idea had not yet gained traction in the Cebuano market. In the sixth month, business began to pick up, and it continued to grow gradually until it was profitable enough for him to open a second coffee cart at SM City Cebu. Due to the company’s initiatives to support local communities and farmers, which is one of the fund’s main focuses, the Philippine-focused Navegar Fund opted to invest in it in 2018.
